Men Inject Too!

In the UK there has been a 400% increase in the number of men getting lip filler. No, not so they can pull off an insta-duck face, but because they have thin lips. Lips do actually thin over time, but some of us are cursed with Herman Munster Lips from the outset.

Men are also addressing crows feet (lines around the eyes), frown lines, small or non-existent chins and weak jaw lines. This is done with little to no down time between work appointments.

What exactly are Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections block a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. This helps to stop muscle contraction, acting as a muscle relaxant, lifting and softening fine lines. It also works to prevent deep wrinkles from forming. Anti-wrinkle Injections are suitable for the forehead, between the eyebrows (frown lines), crows feet, "bunny lines" (on the nose) plus lines around the mouth that give the impression of sadness or "resting bitch face". The injections can also help to reduce teeth grinding.

What about Dermal Fillers?

We have a strict no Duck Face policy. There is definitely a place for dermal fillers to help men address issues they may have with their look. Dermal fillers plump the skin by adding volume. The filler draws in hydration to the area being treated to plump, restore, volumise and enhance. The skilled clinician places the injections strategically to fill in wrinkles caused by sagging skin, and restore volume lost through the aging process, such as sunken cheeks.

Dermal fillers can be used around cheek bones, lips, nasal region, address marionette lines (lines coming down from the corners of the mouth), shaping the chin and jawline.

How do I prepare for a treatment?

You will need to cease any aspirin or Vitamin E one week prior to injections, however if you have been prescribed these, please consult with your doctor prior to stopping any medication. Also avoid a large consumption of alcohol 24 hours prior to your appointment as it may increase your risk of bruising.

How long will it take?

Please allow an hour for the first appointment, subsequent appointments will take less time.

Is it painful?

Anti-wrinkle injections: Minimal if any pain. Slight sting from needle prick, which will relieve once needle removed.

Dermal fillers: Initial injections may be painful which ease as the product contains an anaesthetic which numbs the area temporarily.

Are there side effects?

Anti-wrinkle injections: You can expect some redness and discomfort at the injection site which usually resolves in 10-20 minutes. Bruising may occur, but is rare as the needle is quite small.

Dermal Fillers: Again you can expect some redness and possible discomfort at the injection site, and usually resolves within an hour. Bruising will possibly occur.

How long does it work for?

Anti-wrinkle injections: The muscle relaxant will take effect within 2-3 days, will full effect in around 2 weeks. The treatment will be effective for around 3 to 4 months, and over time with regular treatments this may extend to 5-6 months with less units of the product.

Dermal fillers: The effects are fairly immediate and will last 6-9 months, with some reported cases lasting 12 months.

Recovery Time.

Both have little to no recovery time. Do not participate in excessive physical activity for 48 hours after treatment (e.g. football training, running). You may wish to take paracetamol once the local anaesthetic wears off from the Dermal Filler, but usually this isn't required. Dermal fillers may leave some bruising for up to 2-3 days.

How much will it cost?
